"Worship the Lord" [LK 4:8]
[LK 4:1] Jesus, full of the Holy
Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert, [2]
where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those
days, and at the end of them he was hungry.
LK 4:3 The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, tell this stone
to become bread."
LK 4:4 Jesus answered, "It is written: `Man does not live on bread alone.'
"
LK 4:5 The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all
the kingdoms of the world. [6] And he said to him, "I will give you all
their authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to
anyone I want to. [7] So if you worship me, it will all be yours."
LK 4:8 Jesus answered, "It is written: `Worship the Lord your God and
serve him only.' "
LK 4:9 The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of
the temple. "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw
yourself down from here. [10] For it is written:
" `He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully;
LK 4:11 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your
foot against a stone.' "
LK 4:12 Jesus answered, "It says: `Do not put the Lord your God to the
test.' "
[PS 54] Save me, O God, by your name; vindicate
me by your might.
Hear my prayer, O God; listen to the words of my mouth. Strangers are attacking
me; ruthless men seek my life--men without regard for God.

Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.
Let evil recoil on those who slander me; in your faithfulness destroy them.
I will sacrifice a freewill offering to you; I will praise your name, O LORD,
for it is good.
For he has delivered me from all my troubles, and my eyes have looked in
triumph on my foes.
[ISA 54:1-3] "Sing, O barren woman, you who
never bore a child; burst into song, shout for joy, you who were never in
labor; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has
a husband," says the LORD.
"Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not
hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes. For you will spread out
to the right and to the left; your descendants will dispossess nations and
settle in their desolate cities.
[ISA 54:4-8]"Do not be afraid; you will not
suffer shame. Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated. You will forget
the shame of your youth and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood.
For your Maker is your husband-- the LORD Almighty is his name-- the Holy One
of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth. The LORD
will call you back as if you were a wife deserted and distressed in spirit-- a
wife who married young, only to be rejected," says your God. "For a
brief moment I abandoned you, but with deep compassion I will bring you back.
In a surge of anger I hid my face from you for a moment, but with everlasting
kindness I will have compassion on you," says the LORD your Redeemer.
[ISA 54:9-10] "To me this is like the days of Noah, when I swore that the waters of Noah would never again cover the earth. So now I have sworn not to be angry with you, never to rebuke you again. Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed," says the LORD, who has compassion on you.
[ISA 54:11-15] "O afflicted city, lashed by
storms and not comforted, I will build you with stones of turquoise, your
foundations with sapphires.
I will make your battlements of rubies, your gates of sparkling jewels, and all
your walls of precious stones.
All your sons will be taught by the LORD, and great will be your children's
peace. In righteousness you will be established: Tyranny will be far from you;
you will have nothing to fear. Terror will be far removed; it will not come
near you. If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing; whoever attacks
you will surrender to you.
[ISA 54:16,17] "See, it is I who created the
blacksmith who fans the coals into flame and forges a weapon fit for its work.
And it is I who have created the destroyer to work havoc; no weapon forged
against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you.
This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication
from me," declares the LORD.
[EST 10:2,3] And all his acts of power and might,
together with a full account of the greatness of Mordecai to which the king had
raised him, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of
Media and Persia? Mordecai the Jew was second in rank to King Xerxes,
preeminent among the Jews, and held in high esteem by his many fellow Jews,
because he worked for the good of his people and spoke up for the welfare of
all the Jews.
[GE 41:42,43] Then Pharaoh took his signet ring from his finger and put it on
Joseph's finger. He dressed him in robes of fine linen and put a gold chain
around his neck. He had him ride in a chariot as his second-in-command, and men
shouted before him, "Make way!" Thus he put him in charge of the
whole land of Egypt.
[GE 41:44,45] Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, "I am Pharaoh, but without your
word no one will lift hand or foot in all Egypt." Pharaoh gave Joseph the
name Zaphenath-Paneah and gave him Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On,
to be his wife. And Joseph went throughout the land of Egypt.
[GE 41:46-49] Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of
Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from Pharaoh's presence and traveled
throughout Egypt. During the seven years of abundance the land produced
plentifully. Joseph collected all the food produced in those seven years of
abundance in Egypt and stored it in the cities. In each city he put the food
grown in the fields surrounding it. Joseph stored up huge quantities of grain,
like the sand of the sea; it was so much that he stopped keeping records
because it was beyond measure.
[GE 41:50-52] Before the years of famine came, two sons were born to Joseph by Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On. Joseph named his firstborn Manasseh and said, "It is because God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father's household." The second son he named Ephraim and said, "It is because God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering."
[GE 41:53-55] The seven years of abundance in Egypt came to an end, and the seven years of famine began, just as Joseph had said. There was famine in all the other lands, but in the whole land of Egypt there was food. When all Egypt began to feel the famine, the people cried to Pharaoh for food. Then Pharaoh told all the Egyptians, "Go to Joseph and do what he tells you."
[GE 41:56,57] When the
famine had spread over the whole country, Joseph opened the storehouses and
sold grain to the Egyptians, for the famine was severe throughout Egypt. And
all the countries came to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph, because the famine
was severe in all the world.
[PR 20:1,2] Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them
is not wise. A king's wrath is like the roar of a lion; he who angers him
forfeits his life.
[PR 20:3] It is to a man's honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to
quarrel.
[PR 20:4] A sluggard does not plow in season; so at harvest time he looks but
finds nothing.
[PS 108:1] My heart is steadfast, O God; I will
sing and make music with all my soul.
[PS 108:2-4] Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. I will praise you, O
LORD, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples.
For great is your love, higher than the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to
the skies.
[PS 108:5] Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, and let your glory be over all
the earth.
[HAG 1:2-6] This is what the LORD Almighty says:
"These people say, `The time has not yet come for the LORD's house to be
built.'"
Then the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai: "Is it a time
for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house
remains a ruin?"
Now this is what the LORD Almighty says: "Give careful thought to your
ways. You have planted much, but have harvested little. You eat, but never have
enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not
warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it."
[HAG 1:7-11] This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Give careful thought to
your ways. Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build the house,
so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored," says the LORD.
"You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought
home, I blew away. Why?" declares the LORD Almighty. "Because of my
house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with his own house.
Therefore, because of you the heavens have withheld their dew and the earth its
crops. I called for a drought on the fields and the mountains, on the grain,
the new wine, the oil and whatever the ground produces, on men and cattle, and
on the labor of your hands."
[JER 14:1-3] This is the word of the LORD to Jeremiah concerning the drought:
"Judah mourns, her cities languish; they wail for the land, and a cry goes
up from Jerusalem. The nobles send their servants for water; they go to the
cisterns but find no water. They return with their jars unfilled; dismayed and
despairing, they cover their heads.
[JER 14:4-6] The ground is cracked because there is no rain in the land; the
farmers are dismayed and cover their heads. Even the doe in the field deserts
her newborn fawn because there is no grass. Wild donkeys stand on the barren
heights and pant like jackals; their eyesight fails
[PS 78:1-9] O my people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth. I
will open my mouth in parables, I will utter hidden things, things from of
old-- what we have heard and known, what our fathers have told us. We will not
hide them from their children; we will tell the next generation the
praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done.
He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he
commanded our forefathers to teach their children, so the next generation would
know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their
children. Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds
but would keep his commands. They would not be like their forefathers--a
stubborn and rebellious generation, whose hearts were not loyal to God, whose
spirits were not faithful to him.
[ISA 2:2-5] In the last days the mountain of the LORD's temple will be established
as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and all
nations will stream to it. Many peoples will come and say, "Come, let us
go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will
teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths."
The law will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples.
They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war
anymore. Come, O house of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the LORD.
[SS 4:1-7] How beautiful you are, my darling! Oh, how beautiful! Your eyes
behind your veil are doves. Your hair is like a flock of goats descending from
Mount Gilead.
Your teeth are like a flock of sheep just shorn, coming up from the washing.
Each has its twin; not one of them is alone.
Your lips are like a scarlet ribbon; your mouth is lovely.
Your temples behind your veil are like the halves of a pomegranate.
Your neck is like the tower of David, built with elegance; on it hang a
thousand shields, all of them shields of warriors.
Your two breasts are like two fawns, like twin fawns of a gazelle that browse among
the lilies.
Until the day breaks and the shadows flee, I will go to the mountain of myrrh
and to the hill of incense.
All beautiful you are, my darling; there is no flaw in you.

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again:
Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be
anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with
thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which
transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ
Jesus.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever
is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is
admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such
things.LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and
be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.
